A Little Taste

Howdy, folks! Thanks for all your well wishes and everything. I am doing fine and hope to begin acting like a normal person again soon. Not up for a great big old blog post just yet but here are a few notes and thoughts over recent weeks.

  • Obama is going to be our next president and I am taking all the credit in advance.
  • The writers strike is over and SNL better make up for it tonight or I am going to throw my TV out the window.
  • I went to Shedd Aquarium a few days ago and one of the whales exhaled in my face. It was pretty cool.
  • Cubs are in training camp. I am getting excited. I am retarded.

I'm going to spend some time over the next several weeks in Milwaukee. If anyone has any suggestions on how to spend my time out there, suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

More soon.

The art museum on the lake is pretty outstanding. The architecture is beautiful and they frequently have interesting exhibits. Also, even if you're not drinking beer, the Miller brewery tour is pretty fascinating, if only to conjure up images of Laverne and Shirley.

Also, I highly recommend Mader's for some good, old-fashioned German food. I've also heard nothing but good things about City Market (Watertown Plank Rd.) for generally healthy and delicious food. And, my all-time favorite ice cream/custard is at Kopp's. There are three locations around Milwaukee.

I think you could get into a Bucks game pretty easily, too, if you're into that sort of thing.

That's all I got.

I'd like to note I supported Obama before he won the primary back in 1894.

And as for fun things to do in Milwaukee, I suggest packing your bags and driving south until you hit Chicago.

I, too, am a Cubs fan (living in STL) and an Obama Fan. I am sure one of these will finish as a winner before the end of '08.

Welcome back! As for Milkwaukee, the Art Museum is interesting... it's not CAI, but it's not bad. There's also a place there called the Safehouse (I think) that I've wanted to try but haven't made it there yet.

Funny, but I went to Shedd this past weekend for the first time in my life. But I only had water spat in my face in the 4D auditorium. :)

Welcome back! I hear the art museum in Milwaukee (The Walker, I believe it's called) is great.

Hope you're well.

The Safe House is a blast. Spy-themed kitsch to the max - on Front Street on the east side of the river. The sign out front says "International Exports."

Haven't been there in a few years, but I've always enjoyed African Hut since I first discovered it several years back. It's on Old World Third Street near Mader's.

Brady Street north of downtown is cool - good restaurants and funky, fun shopping. The 3rd ward south of downtown has an interesting mix of galleries and restaurants.

Lots of great stuff to do in Milwaukee. Have fun!

They've excavated half the damned city! The other half should be fun.
