OK. I know I am setting myself up, but I looked at the proposal for Edgewater Harbor and it looks GOOD. It adds more beach and park area and adds restrooms, showers, and concessions that we do not currently have. Provided there are not major ecological ramifications (and please don't start telling me how it will destroy the ecosystem unless you have some solid numbers) I can see no reason to oppose it.

Hi Michael.

Before you get too excited about new amenities in our parks, try a simple experiment: bop by the harbor down at Monroe and ask the nice yachtsmen if you can use their bathroom or take a quick shower.

I agree with that comment, however, this plan says that they are public. If that is true, I love it.

I think this project has a very different set of ramifications for RP than the Evanston marina did. I think the evidence of direct environmental degradation was much clearer in the Evanston project - we were "downstream" so to speak. You can visit Don Gordons site if you are interested in those details.

What worries me about the harbor at Edgewater is any possible impetus it could give to the project to extend Lakeshore drive. I am not at all convinced that would be good for quality of life in RP.

As far as extending LSD, I really don't think that will happen anytime soon. Although it was originally intended to extend much further north, so much has been done since its last extension that it would meet with incredible opposition if they were to try and continue the extension today.

I hope you are right, but it gives me pause that Jan S. is doing another study of the idea.

But I agree that nothing is going to happen with that very soon.

I am content to wait until the meeting 10/20 to see what details they provide and whether that meeting lends itself to broaching the LSD question.
